 Description
It might be nice to have a location field as a persistent drop-down menu. Employees could specify that they were at lunch, over in building X, Y, or Z, or at their desk. These locations could also have a status associated with them (eg, Lunch = Away, At My Desk = Available). That way, other techs would know if they should pass tickets to you, or if it would be better to pick someone else.

This could be used in a couple different ways. First, it could replace the tech's current action at the bottom of the Mail area; so "Mike Q is displaying ticket [1234]" could become "Mike Q is away, with status -- AT LUNCH"

Or, if workers marked themselves as away, their name might be put at the bottom of the Next Worker field.

Under the Home or Mail sections, this could also just be another tab called Worker Status

Interesting ideas. Added to wishlist so it can evolve a bit from more feedback. Thanks!

Furthermore, if there was a status field techs could update to say what they're working on that would be wonderful. In the past I know the bottom of the screen would show what tickets users were browsing. I'm thinking of that enhanced with a user configurable option, like a mix of Twitter and Facebook. They click a box, and type their status. This would help us know what techs are doing (or supposed to be doing) at all times. The easier it is to update (click their name, type what they're doing, show status to right of name), the more likely they'll do it.

The key for this item is that it can be updated at all times by the user. Then management can pull up one screen and see what all techs are doing. This could also be useful so all techs can see what each other are doing.

For example, most of our techs work remotely. Rather than calling, emailing, messaging them if I'm out and about or they're with a customer, they could simply update their status in cerb since they're already there. The more we can put into cerb so we don't need so many tabs open in the browser, the better.

In 4.3.1 we have custom fields on workers. Perhaps we could just add configuration to specify the fields workers are allowed to update about themselves (such as a status text field). Then managers could build a workspace of workers using whatever columns they desired.

It's possible we could integrate this into the "Who's Online" area. It'd be best if we just add more customization options to how that data displays so custom fields are available and the format could be changed per worker (show/hide IP, show/hide status, etc).
