Cerberus Helpdesk

using persistent IMAP connection (idle mode) for immediate mail delivery

Created: 18/Aug/08 11:37 AM   Updated: 01/Aug/09 11:04 PM
Fix Version/s: An Ounce of Prevention

Original Estimate: Unknown Remaining Estimate: Unknown Time Spent: Unknown

Value: 3 - Would Be Nice

 Description
it would be nice a) to have cerberus constantly checking mail by using a persistent IMAP connection (http://email.about.com/od/emailbehindthescenes/g/imap_idle.htm) like offered by some IMAP servers (google's for instance) and b), if this is possible, to immediately "push" a mail import on delivery of new messages.

this way, i could instantly push a mail from the mail program to a special "helpdesk" IMAP folder and it would appear in cerberus almost immediately for further editing..

as Hildy wrote here http://forums.cerb4.com/showthread.php?p=6446#post6446 it would need fundamental changes, but i would like to propose it anyway, maybe in a release further down the road.
